Anna… on Abundance
When you think of abundance, what is it you think about. Is it a cornucopia laden with bountiful, autumn produce, like pumpkins, winter squash, and dried corn?
Somehow, this doesn’t really represent a modern image of abundance.
Perhaps, it’s a pile of money. The old image of rolling around in a plethora of dollar bills.
Even that’s a bit old-fashioned because we don’t actually use cash anymore.
Definition of Abundance Miriam Webster’s online
- an abundant amount: profusion.
- A city that has an abundance of fine restaurants.
- Affluence, wealth
The images of cornucopia and piles of money seem to adequately identify the two definitions given by our friendly dictionary.
But, is that the whole picture?
Abundance is the start of a deep dive into the world of Values. We, here at Spilling Marbles, will be getting a close look at the myriads of terms that are considered values. Values are not only positive. I know, I know, we think of values as the good things that we associate ourselves and others that we like, but values also include the negative attributes that exist in our world and the people that inhabit it.
On Values: values = virtues (the good stuff) and vices (the not-so-good, or downright bad stuff). Ah, now it’s all familiar, right?
When you look inside to assess those things, you are confronted with truths. You (and me too) can decide to turn away from those uncomfortable ideas. You can openly dispute them or deny them. You can also just try to learn more about them. We hope you will give the latter a try, but all responses are valid in this game of life.
As children, we are taught many ideas about values. We were directly instructed or reprimanded for our behavior often based on the principles of values. More likely, we learned values from watching others. The people we love and their values. The people we admire and their actions and assertions. As you look inside to reflect on your personal set of values, you will be confronted with truths that may return you to your innocent years. Don’t discount them. They can guide you on your path of self-discovery. Our pure visions of the world seen through innocent eyes are often the light of the soul.
We were made for abundance, but is abundance just a state of mind?
CLR challenge: Ponder on
You are surrounded by people who are always doing things for others and are always rewarded. If you help someone you get a thanks or earn a few bucks. How do you think this affects other’s perception of you and your perception of yourself. Does it change depending on the reward you receive?
I would love to hear your thoughts.
